Flourishing on the Farm +++ Rural vs Urban Culture +++ Comparing Farms +++ Absolutely Intercultural 245 +++

Welcome to show 245 of “Absolutely Intercultural”! Today’s show is about farm life in Brazil, Germany and Australia. We will learn what childhood is like from three different farm environments in Brazil, Australia and Germany. Be warned, some of the stories may be shocking.

We will hear Manoel from Brazil, Kalvin from Australia, and Laurence, from Germany.  You will be surprised and terrified by some of the things our guests have seen and done in their childhood on the farm. Our interviewer today is Vitor, also from Brazil, who is doing his second semester as an exchange student at RheinAhrCampus, Germany. He has been our editor for a while and was curious how culture in the city differs from the countryside, having never personally experienced it before.

absolutely shirtless
Hear about farm-life in Germany, Australia and Brazil. Manoel and Kalvin will explain the challenges that they faced on the farm, and even greater challenges when they finally moved to the urban environment.

absolutely pragmatic
Kalvin, from Australia, talks about his relationship with the animals on his farm. His parents did not want him to build a close or friendly relationship with the animals and they forced him to call the pig on the farm “Dinner” to make it clear what would happen. Hear funny, drastic and graphic stories about the relationships they had with the animals on these farms. Vitor asked what their friends from the city would think about country life.

absolutely realistic
We will hear how our three guests think about their farm experiences now, and what they learned from the farm. Vitor asks us the 500-dollar question: how has living in the countryside during childhood changed your norms and values in life? Laurence shares his stories about spending holidays on his uncle’s farm during the 60’s.
