intercultural training +++ Carmela Antić +++ AI +++ absolutely intercultural 323 +++

You have probably read articles about how AI is going to take over thousands of jobs, so can AI take over intercultural training in particular? That’s a question that newly qualified intercultural trainer, Carmela Antić wondered out loud about on LinkedIn. So I got in touch and asked her to explain more on the podcast.

Welcome to Absolutely Intercultural, show number 323. My name’s Anne Fox and this show is coming to you from Denmark.

Before we explore if AI can take over intercultural training, we need to be clear about what a human intercultural trainer does. Here is how Carmela described her work. Carmela then shares how she uses AI to support her work, but she also tells us when it is not a good idea.

absolutely human
So let’s start the show and begin by hearing what an intercultural trainer actually does, before we stop to consider to what extent that could be taken over by AI.

absolutely replaceable
Now that we know what an intercultural trainer does, I moved on next to ask Carmela why she had asked on LinkedIn whether AI would be taking over intercultural training.

So, as often happens, it seems that we can use AI as a support rather than a replacement and that one of the most important parts of intercultural training is experiencing shifts in emotions and perspectives where AI is very weak.

I really liked the idea of the AI based on knowledge up to 1930. It’s called talkie and is a really fun way to explore attitudes from the past. You’ll find a link to that and also to Carmela on LinkedIn on our website.

So what do you think? Would you benefit from an intercultural training offered by AI? Have you tried the Talkie chat bot?

We would love to hear your stories. Leave a comment here on the website, send us an email, or reach out if you would like to be a guest.

Don’t forget that we are also on  Apple podcasts and Spotify where you can give us a rating. And if you enjoyed the show, please like us on Facebook too.

Our next show will be coming to you on November 6th.

Until then, stay tuned!
